Help Fiery Ginger Farm Expand!
Donation protected
We are a one acre urban farm growing on a parcel owned by Washington Unified School District . As graduates of the California Farm Academy we were able to lease this property through the Farm Business Incubator . With our education backgrounds and focus on school lunch nutrition this school site was the perfect location for us!
We have thrived on this sandy little piece of land and late last fall we were offered a longer tenure on the land and a private lease with WUSD. Along with that lease came the offer of expansion to a second acre . In order to expand to that site we need to install 380 feet of chain link fence to separate the school from the farm. The school district did not have funds to build the fence and bids from contractors came back at $20,000. Our generous partners at Raley’s have offered to continue to support the school and our farms educational programs by donating $5,000 directly to the school to help build the fence. We have an amazing start to this fundraising but we need your help !
By donating you are helping our farm and our partners at WUSD continue to support the community with Ag education and food access. Adding a second acre would allow for expansion of these educational programs:
• Increased land for for animal or other Ag science based SAE projects with FFA Students. This will also provide us the space to support longer term projects such soil science .
• Increased production to provide produce for the Kids Farmers Market through the Yolo and Sacramento Food Banks.
• Increased greenhouse space allowing for more production of plants for school Gardens as well as a location for future model school garden, and garden educator trainings.
• Increased production for school lunches, and produce for WUSD weekly nutrition education through the California Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program .
•Increased capacity and more diversified field trips, allowing us to reach a larger range of age groups.. there’s nothing better than hands on learning!
• Ability to become a summer feeding site. Providing food accesss to our community and and a fun educational activity after lunch .

In addition to the expansion of our educational and community outreach programs this expansion will also make our farm more viable!
•Increased space for crop rotation and livestock roatation. This will help with soil health and pest control.
•More space to utilize weed control like occultation with silage tarps.
• More production means more opportunity to participate in community internship programs and provide jobs for youth interested in Agriculture.
• More space to diversify our crops and plant some that are slower growing like cauliflower.

Ideally we would like to break ground in the spring so we can start production in the fall. Community , Ag education and food access are
important to us. Your donation will help us further these goals in 2020 and beyond. It takes a villiage, and every little bit helps. Please consider donating to help us and the school build the fence!
