Help pay for services to honor Jennifer
Donation protected
I'm creating this GoFundMe to help raise funds in order to pay for services in honor of my mother. I thought she had life insurance which would've covered everything we need and then some, but she wasn't able to keep paying it. Wapello County could pay us as much as $1200 to help with services, if her assets allow it and she qualifies, but it could only be used for cremation, and you aren't allowed to have services after that. The lowest tier on the cremation page at Reece Funeral Home is ~$1800, with immediate cremation and no services. I sobbed when I read that because it's heartbreaking to me for someone to not be able to see their loved one for one last time and not be able to say goodbye. I really want to have a visitation and services, then cremate and spread the ashes with her grandmother, some in nature, and keep some for family. All of that would be ~$7000 though which I just don't have and don't know anyone who does. Things weren't the best between my mom and I at all times, in fact most of the time, but I love her and she's a very special person and I feel like she deserves this. If push comes to shove and all we can do is immediate cremation and just plan a memorial of our own somewhere, so be it and I can move past it. But I feel very strongly about this and am praying for a miracle, because it might sound weird or stupid, but I do want to see her one last time.
Jennifer Lynn Moore LaPoint was born June 15th, 1972 to Diane and Bill Paulson, in Ottumwa, Iowa. She was later adopted by Gary Moore, but raised by Dave Young. In her teenage years she ran track and worked at Taco John's, then Easter's Pharmacy and K-mart. She graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1990, and ten years later received her Associate of Arts degree from Indian Hills Community College. In 2010 she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from Buena Vista, graduating with honors. Jennifer liked to read John Grisham novels in her free time, and loved frogs and turtles. Her yard was carefully tended with cannis, daffodils, tulips, bleeding hearts, lilacs, peonies, and a plethora of other plants. She was happiest out in nature and her favorite weather was thunderstorms. She loved to cook and could make the most delicious version of a dish you've ever had. She was smart, talented, funny, and all around one of a kind. She frequented farmer's markets and the Amish stores in the surrounding area, and loved the Kalona cheese factory's "squeaky cheese". Jennifer had an affinity for foods others might not enjoy, such as liver and onions, pickled jalapenos, pinto beans, and canned whole tomatoes. She worked at the Christian Book and Gift Store, and later at Menards. Jennifer is preceded in death by her grandmother, Fran Wilson. She is survived by her parents Diane and Dave Young, her sister Misty Young, her brothers Randall Moore and Jeremy (Devin) Young, nieces and nephews, and her former spouse Terry LaPoint, with which she has two daughters Hailee and Hannah LaPoint. Her passing was discovered May 2nd, 2023. Services will be held at Reece Funeral Home, details pending. Donations to cover the costs of arrangements will be accepted, both directly to family or through GoFundMe. For further information, contact Reece Funeral Home.
