David is a high school senior at InterAmerican Academy in Guayaquil Ecuador. David was afforded his Private K-12 education through scholarships within the school, due to his father's employment. He is the son of the lead maintenance man within InterAmerican Academy, a man who has kept the school running for 36 years (included in the photo).
David is a good student, he will have an American diploma from a prestigious high school, he is bilingual, and has an incredible work ethic. David has the same hopes and dreams as any other graduating high school senior has. What he and his family do not have, is the means to continue his education. Graduation is about to happen, and unless we can figure something out, this is where his education stops.
David asked for help looking into universities in the United States, and we have been working hard to understand if this is possible for him. Guess what? It IS possible. We have zoomed with admissions staff, we have explored scholarships, and David applied and was accepted to several Universities! David would be the first in his family to attend a US university. This is a very big deal. Can we make it happen.
UPDATE: Due to the overwhelming response and support, our own family has decided to sponsor David. David has accepted a contract with the University of Northern Iowa! David will leave Guayaquil this summer to start his Undergraduate career with UNI in the fall. We are so very excited!!!
What is a sponsor? A sponsor is someone who undertakes the financial responsibility of the International Student (tuition, room and board, and any additional costs to survive) for their educational career. All of the Universities he has applied to, as well as UNI, have offered work opportunities on campus for International students, which are limited and afford David around $150 per week. These work-study programs don't guarantee that David gets the opportunity to earn his own way, and will not cover the full cost.
This is where YOU come in!
With David's academic standing, we have whittled down the cost for tuition through scholarships offered. Room and board will be additional the first year.
Our goal as of now, is to raise at least $20,000 for his first year of college. The years following his first, will not include dorm costs. Total to send David to college for his full four year Undergrad is roughly: $50,000 (not considering living expenses, insurance, books, extra fees, additional or short term academic scholarships), but it gives us a nice target to shoot for! Should we reach our first goal, we will increase our fundraising goal to include additional years. Any excess in funding for this particular project, will go directly to David's family in Ecuador. Should support continue, the Friedrich's (and you!) will be looking to sponsor another student.
We know this is a big ask, David knows it too. He understands that he has the opportunity to do great things. And he will.
Any amount helps! PLEASE PLEASE SHARE THIS SITE with your family, your coworkers, your neighbors!
From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you.
