ECU Nursing student trip to Nepal
Donation protected
In November 2018, nine ECU nursing students will be teaming up with Nineteen Degrees and venturing off to Nepal to participate in a Nursing Clinical Study Tour visiting rural hospitals and villages.
Healthcare in Nepal somewhat differs from the healthcare in Australia. Health care facilities, hygiene, nutrition, and sanitation in Nepal are of poor quality, particularly in the rural areas. In Nepal, disease is significantly higher than in any other South Asian country. Millions of people are at risk of infection and thousands are dying each year due to malnutrition, infectious diseases and other health related events.
The tour entails providing a health outreach program to an outlying community without ordinary access to healthcare. We will provide health education to the local school and villages, which, particularly for children, is of utmost importance to improving the quality of life and encouraging young people to adopt healthier lifestyles.
The money you donate will be directly donated to these communities and will help us purchase the much needed medical supplies that we need to fulfil the objectives of this program. This opportunity will provide a deprived community and basic healthcare service with skills that will improve their current health service and give the Nepalese people the opportunity they deserve. Medical supplies and equipment will be purchased to enable the local nurses to implement the new skills learnt. We are also planning to take gifts to Nepal for the children and communities we visit. So any donation big or small will be greatly appreciated.
The funds raised will also go towards a scholarship for local nursing students that will provide extra financial support in gaining their qualification.
Clinic resources for the health outreach program that we aim to collect are:
· Toothpastes
· Toothbrushes
· Pulse Oximeter
· Digital thermometers
· BP Set
· Stethoscope
· Surgical instruments
· Baby weight Machine
· Hand cream
· Bags
· Clothing
· Reading Glasses
· Tea towels
· Exercise books
· Colouring pencils
· Sports equipment
A quote from his holiness the Dalai Lama"Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them, humanity cannot survive"
So please open up your wallets and spare whatever you can, any amount is greatly appreciated!
