Disappearing permafrost, a tree line migrating further north, and less snow that also melts earlier—what do these climate-related changes mean for the Arctic, and for all of us?

I'm a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Saskathewan in Canada. I've studied environmental change in the western Northwest Territories for the last 10 years. My existing financial support through Earthwatch and Shell's Project Better World abruptly ceased today. 

Here I'd like to crowd-fund this research for the next 1-2 years until I begin a faculty position at an accredited university and become eligible to apply for other grants like NSERC and Canadian Foundation for Innovation.

The funds rasied here would support travel and logistics to my remote field site in the western Mackenzie Mountains of the Northwest Territories in Canada this August, where I will spend several weeks collecting data on permafrost thaw and servicing weather stations that have been monitoring weather since 1990. Our ability to predict future permafrost responses to climate change at time scales relevant to anthropogenic and ecological systems depends on improving our understanding of biotic and abiotic mechanisms. A journey of 1000 kilometers begins with but a single step, so no amount of support people can provide is too small.
