Help me get my first curly hair product to the market! :D
It is an innovative leave-in cream designed for sensitive skin and scalps (such as for children) and excellent for skin and hair with a need of extra love - with respect for our planet.
Sustainability and values are as important to me as profit. I have worked in the international development (non-profit) sector for 8+ years, focusing on human rights, social justice and sustainability. This has taught me how big of an impact businesses have on the environment and the lives of people around the world, and how urgently change is needed. Knowing this, I want to use my passion for product formulation and personal care to contribute to the type of business I believe the world needs today. As a start, I have focused on the micro-biome friendly preservation and biodegradability of formulas, and not using plastic in the packaging. My ambition is not limited to this, as I want to incorporate social sustainability, establish some kind of circular model (with re-using containers, using up cycled ingredients), and more.
How did this venture begin? This started with me trying endless products without being able to find any that solved my problems with dryness (skin and hair), didn't trigger my allergies and irritations, and which had some kind of environmental consideration. As a person with afro-hair, this proved impossible, unfortunately. After spending a lot of money and time, I decided to use the extra down-time during the pandemic lock-down to get myself a education in organic skin and haircare formulation. The goal then was not to start a business, but to learn how to make products for myself.
3 years down the road, I now am a certified organic skin and haircare product formulator (Formula Botanica Organic Cosmetic Formulation School). I also registered a company (NaturDahl AB), have successfully gone through a rigorous business incubator (UIC Sweden), and two amazing products.
Including my private education, business registration, professional equipment, and research and development, I've invested at least 80 000 - 90 000 SEK (approx 7000 to 8000 Euro). This has been money well spent and I am now close to getting these products to the market. However, I don't have the capital that is needed to go the last mile. Grants for artisanal entrepreneurs are very limited and I want to get as far as possible without needing to apply to investors.
With the funds raised here, I will cover these costs:
- Professional laboratory testing & safety assessments
- Supplies to make more prototypes (ingredients, label, packaging)
- Administrative costs (bookkeeping & accounting, bank fees, domaine fees etc)
- Contribute to purchasing ingredients for the first units
There is so much more I could write about my concept, added value, target customers and business ethics, but I will keep it short and invite you to contact me and follow my IG page if you'd like to know more: https://www.instagram.com/hydrobiome_sweden/
Thank you for taking the time to read this! I am grateful for any donation - however small.
With love,
