Funding to pay for treatment of pancreatic cancer for Hector Echeverria (Mr. Echy)

Hi, my name is Joseph and my dad teaches Math and Computer Science at MAST Academy in Key Biscayne. Two years ago he sold his car and purchased an electric scooter, an electric skateboard, new roller blades, and a new bicycle. You probably have seen him on the bike lane of Crandon Boulevard or anywhere Key Biscayne riding any of those eco-friendly vehicles.

Recently, he was diagnosed with stage 3 pancreatic cancer, but rather than just telling his students that he was going through a difficult time, he turned those news into a teachable moment to motivate his students and coworkers.

The support that my dad has received from the school administration, staff, teachers, parents, and especially his students has been wonderful. Prayers, positive thoughts, emails, get-well-soon cards, and several posters in his classroom have encouraged him to continue teaching during the days that he is not at the hospital or under treatment.

As a member of the Kana Lui Miami Outrigger Canoe Club (located at MRC), my dad also has received great support from fellow paddlers, rowers, and dragon boaters. When he is not teaching at MAST, he is in the back of the school ready to paddle and share the Aloha spirit from the Hawaiian culture.

My dad has always been there for my sister Emily and for me, and now we want to make sure that we are there for him. His insurance is covering a portion of the bills, but he still needs to pay for copayments, medications, and out-of-pocket expenses not covered by the insurance.
