Ecco's heart surgery
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Katie and I'm fundraising for my Cockapoo puppies heart surgery. I took Ecco in knowing she had a stage 4 heart murmur but we believed she would have a full and healthy life as long as we were careful with how long she was walked for, ect to stop her heart from getting overworked.
I took Ecco to a murmur clinic at Langford vets today, and we have now been told Ecco is in desperate need for surgery before she goes into congestive heart failure. We have been told Ecco has PDA (Patent Ductus Arteriosus). The Ductus Arteriosus is a communication between 2 major vessels leaving the heart. Shortly after birth the Ductus Arteriosus should close, but unfortunately in some dogs like Ecco this does not happen.
Eccos heart has to work a lot harder than dogs without this condition and at times she struggles to catch her breath. Ecco is now 6 months old and we have been told this is very far along and she will just continue to get worse if not treated asap. The only way this can be treated is through surgery, they need to close off the PDA before it gets too severe or her heart won't be able to take it for much longer. They have also said this needs to be done in the next month for best chance of survival. Ecco needs this surgery or she won't make it past a year old.
We have been told the surgery will cost £2.5k but unfortunately that is just too much money for me to get in such short notice. Ecco helps me in so many different ways, she keeps me calmer and I feel less anxious when I have Ecco with me, Ecco knows when I'm upset or having a bad day and she knows exactly how to cheer me up and doesn't leave my side. Ecco is an amazing little dog in so many ways, everyone who meets her falls in love with her, she has so much love to give everyone and has too much life in her to give up. Ecco is a little warrior she never lets anything phase her, even when she's struggling to keep her heart calm she has always got a smile on her face. I couldn't imagine life without Ecco, to some she might just be "a dog" but to me she is my emotional support dog, she is my best friend who comes everywhere with me and she is my family.
