My name is Marielle and I'm the youngest daughter of my family of 5. On the evening of Saturday January 24th 2026, my parents were in Mexico visiting friends when my dad fell over a low railing and fell two stories and landed on his back. He had major injuries to his spine and has undergone two surgeries in Mexico to secure his spine and stabilize him enough to be medically transferred back to Canada. Upon receiving the news, I flew from Vancouver to Cabo to be with my mom immediately, and have stayed by her side since then supporting both of my parents.

My dad, Rob, is the kindest, best dad in the world. He did everything he could to support us and ensure we were given a wonderful life in Thunder Bay Ontario. My parents love story is one for the ages, not even Romeo and Juliet could come close to the bond that my mom and dad share. My entire life they set the example of what a partnership is. I watched my mom race to the living room window at the same time each day to wave hello and goodbye as my dad left and returned from work. I've watched my dad make my mom exactly two cups of coffee every single morning for the last 35 years. They dance and joke and laugh, they hold hands and never miss an opportunity to embrace in a hug or sneak a quick kiss. They have fallen asleep next to each other every night and somehow the next morning find themselves even more in love.

Sadly, on February 7th, we had to say goodbye to my dad. The injuries were far too large for a chance of recovery. He held on long enough to pass away surrounded by all his children and his wife whom he loved more than anything in the world. Our family is heartbroken, but we will forever be grateful for the love and kindness all the donors provided us during this impossible time.

I initially put up this go fund me to assist in the medical bills and ongoing requirements to adjust our home to make my dad as comfortable as possible while he navigates his new life. But now, through all of your kindness and support for my family we will be using your donation for final medical expenses and end of life services. Every person's generosity and kindness has eased our stress to prepare for our future.
