EB's Marathon
Donation protected
On September 14th, 2021, our father, Ercil Burton, was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). He then went on to have several rounds of aggressive chemotherapy to get his cancer into remission (and it was successful).
Once in remission, he had a bone marrow transplant, which began on April 25th, 2022. Following the bone marrow transplant, Ercil spent 100+ days in the Jacksonville Mayo Clinic and The Gabriel House of Care. Ercil was happily released from the Mayo Clinic on August 4th, 2022, to continue his extended healing process from home.
And just one month later (September 2022), we received the news that his leukemia had returned.
Over these past several months, Ercil and his wife, Melanie (along with Melanie's mother, Miss Kathy), have made countless trips (3-4 times per week) from their home in New Smyrna Beach to the Jacksonville Mayo Clinic (which is a 100-mile drive just going one way). Other times they stay at The Gabriel House of Care (if available) or a hotel in Jacksonville for the evening.
So, relying on only one source of income (with Ercil being physically unable to work any longer), gas prices, lodging, medical bills, various prescriptions, and treatments (not covered by insurance), there’s a looming financial burden we would like to ease as much as possible for Ercil and Melanie.
This entire process has been eye-opening for all of us, and our hearts go out to anyone who IS battling, HAS battled, WILL battle, or is/was a caregiver for someone going through cancer and all the rigorous treatments and outrageous costs to fight it.
There will be more chemotherapy to get him back into remission and another bone marrow transplant. So there's no donation too great or too small, for this is truly a marathon, and the race to the finish will be long and grueling.
Thank you for your time, love, energy & support!
Sincerely,
Kellen
