Cancer Patients and Equine Therapeutics
Detraibile fiscalmente
Please consider donating to the Fighting Chance equine therapeutic program for cancer patients, their caregivers and family. My name is Amy Zachary and I'm an oncology social worker with Fighting Chance which is a 22-year old 501C, non-profit organization located in Sag Harbor, NY which provides free counseling, free Hampton Jitney tickets for patients who are receiving their treatment in New York City and free taxi service for patients to and from cancer-related medical appointments.
Fighting Chance's equine therapeutic program includes feeding, grooming and walking with the horses. Research indicates that equine therapy can provide physical and emotional rewards such as decreased anxiety and depression. In fact, the Mayo Clinic has endorsed the use of equine therapeutics with cancer patients. Our group provides emotional support, information sharing, proactive guidance, resources and referrals as well as logistical support. And most importantly, the group decreases the social isolation which afflicts so many cancer patients who find that their life is organized around treatment and seemingly endless doctors' appointments.
Patients report that the group provides them with a safe sanctuary, where they feel free from the medical universe which has come to dominate their lives. Believe me, your contribution, no matter the amount, will mean the world to these patients who never cease to inspire and amaze me with their strength and grit in the face of uncertainty.
