EBEZINA - a USC Capstone Film Campaign

Ebezina is a USC MFA Capstone film.

 

The story follows a nine-year-old boy who through spiritual encounters with his deceased grandfather, learns a song that reconnects him with his grieving father. It is uniquely told through the lens of Nigerian characters with music (piano) embedded in the story’s engine. But most importantly, the themes of this film are universal:

In an effort to tell this story in the best way, the biggest theme that we have focused on is the idea of masculinity. What it means to be a man. This is the primary point of conflict in our film as Uche (the young boy’s father) is doing everything he can to hide his true emotions from his son (Chukwudi - our protagonist). As a result, we see the deterioration of a father and son relationship, and through this, we begin to discover what it truly means to be a man.
