On January 2, 2014 Pete Filipowicz was diagnosed with Colon Cancer; the cancerous tumor and infected lymph nodes were removed on January 7th. Unfortunately, Pete’s story does not end here! After surgery, Pete spent 27 days in intensive care with a number of serious complications, before being released from the hospital. During this time, Pete’s wife, Lori, took a leave of absence from work to help care for Pete. However, Pete’s recovery continued to be plagued complications; his recovery was not progressing.
On February 13, 2014 Pete was rushed to the ER and was diagnosed with Sepsis- an often fatal infection that shuts down vital bodily organs. On Valentine’s Day, Pete under went surgery to clean out the deadly infection that had taken over his abdominal area. Pete’s Sepsis was the worst case the surgeon had seen in 24 years and needed 3 more surgeries! At this point, the family realized Pete’s recovery was going to be a painfully long process, if he was lucky enough to survive!
God willing, Pete’s extraordinary journey continued; at the end of May 2014, Pete was released from the hospital and returned home! Lori was able to return to work, as their daughter Lindsey was able to care for Dad at home. Today, Pete continues his journey and has made great strides towards a full recovery.
As you can imagine, after 6 months in the hospital and countless surgeries, they have accumulated crushing medical bills. This battle not only almost cost Pete his life; it also has put a huge financial burden on the family. As we continue to pray for a full recovery, Pete and Lori could also use our financial support.
