Hi all, my name is Ri and I’m 23 years old. I was recently diagnosed with Lupus in January 2021. In November 2020 , I was rushed to the ER for excessive bleeding. The doctors found my blood platelets were extremely low and ordered an emergency blood transfusion. They admitted me to the hospital. After days of being hospitalized, they were able to conclude I had an auto immune disease and would need to start seeing a hematologist who then referred me to a rheumatologist. After months of testing and waiting for results, my doctor was able to pinpoint the auto immune disorder as lupus, to be more specific I was diagnosed with a form called Lupus Nephritis which effects the kidneys. I was then recommended to see a kidney specialist for additional treatment. I just moved out of my parents’ house and have been living on my own for about 6 months now. With the medical/hospital bills piling up, having to miss work for weekly visits to multiple doctors, the extreme exhaustion, and the large quantity of medicines I’m paying for, it has been difficult to stay financially afloat and I’m falling behind financially. My doctor has recommended that I work from home for the time being while I’m getting started on the plan of care they have set up for me.
