Eaton Fire Relief for Wendy Dlakic in Altadena
Donation protected
I'm creating this fundraiser for my mother Wendy Dlakic, who has been displaced from Altadena by the Eaton fire.
Wendy evacuated from her apartment Jan. 7 ahead of the Eaton fire and like many of her neighbors in Altadena, she only had time to take a few bags with clothes and essentials. Since then, we all waited to see what would become of her apartment and her beloved neighborhood.
As of right now, it seems like her apartment building is still standing, but all of the neighboring buildings have burned down, including her garage that contained the electrical system for the apartment. Until the fire is contained and the national guard allows re-entry into Altadena, she is displaced into hotels and the homes of family and friends. Even when she can return to the apartment, it is very likely that the smoke damage and lack of electricity will make the building uninhabitable for months, or possibly red-tagged, leading to an extended search for housing. It is also very likely that the majority of her possessions will not be recoverable due to the smoke damage.
This fundraiser is to help Wendy secure temporary housing for the near future, search for new housing, and likely replace lost possessions after she is able to search through the remains of her apartment. She has a small renters insurance policy, but it has only provided housing assistance for two weeks, and will likely not cover all of her lost possessions or costs to move into a new apartment.
We will update everyone on the status of the apartment and her possessions as soon as she is able to enter Altadena. Thank you all for your support, Wendy has built a strong community in Altadena and is devastated by the loss of her neighbor's units and her neighborhood. Any donation helps!
