East Oakland Grocery Coop & Farms to Grow Fund

Hi Folks! Our fundraiser officially ended on September 21st, 2020. However, you can still donate to The DEEP Grocery Cooperative  (formerly named the East Oakland Grocery Cooperative and Farms to Grow on their hyperlinked websites. Please be sure to visit their pages to learn more about other ways to support them as well!
Thank you!

The BSFC is raising money for the East Oakland Grocery Cooperative  and Farms to Grow, Inc., two Black-owned food justice organizations in the East Bay that support the BIPOC community. We recognize that the food space is often privileged and white, and we are calling on the Food Collective and campus community to shift wealth and resources to these organizations. Please share this link with anyone you know that is able to contribute.

Berkeley Student Food Collective is a nonprofit, student-run, cooperative grocery store located in Berkeley, CA. Many of our members have been actively following and supporting the Black Lives Matter movement, especially as it has gained momentum in the past few months. We recognize that food justice is racial justice, and gross inequities in the food system — including health, wealth, and food security disparities which disproportionately oppress Black communities — must be addressed both on an individual and systems level. We are calling on the Food Collective and campus community, friends, and family to help us support community-based organizations fighting for food justice and that have a history of advocating for Black and Indigenous folx in the Bay Area. Please join us in redistributing wealth and power to these Black and Brown owned organizations by donating! The proceeds will go to the following organizations, who we admire for their work empowering marginalized community members, especially Black folx and farmers:

East Oakland Grocery Cooperative
“The East Oakland Grocery Cooperative (EOGC) is a community-developed project that will equitably provide fresh, local foods and job opportunities, prioritizing Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) residents of Deep East Oakland.

Our founding cohort of rooted, resident leaders are proudly changing the narrative of food apartheid by bringing affordable, fair-trade, locally grown produce, and a sustainable economy to Deep East Oakland residents. We are committed to creating spaces for learning, and unapologetic Black and Brown joy that transform our hood!”

-Ayano Jeffers-Fabro, EOGC Project Manager

Farms to Grow, Inc.
Farms to Grow aims to promote the sustainability and legacy of Black and underserved farmers as well as sprout the next generation of small farmers. They document and disseminate farm history to advance the public's understanding of the important roles of Black farmers, and improve access to urban food markets including schools, restaurants, and individual consumers for Black and other underserved farmers.

Your donation will support these organizations as they continue to improve food access and food equity amid the pandemic and beyond. If you are unable to donate, please share this link with someone who has the capacity to give, and be sure to check out the websites of the individual organizations to learn more about how you can support their long term growth so that they can flourish for years to come!

Note: Although the fundraiser is officially run under the Berkeley Student Food Collective, 100% of funds raised after GoFundMe transfer fees will be split evenly among these two organizations to support their respective and intersecting missions. Again, please join us in redistributing wealth and power to these Black and Brown owned organizations by donating!
