Dear Community, Family and Friends,
It is with great excitement that for the first time in Garfield High School 97 years of existence, our boys basketball team has finally made history by winning its first ever Boys Basketball City Championship. With championships come the much anticipated ring ceremony. As many of you know, our boys come from low income communities and our seniors have many expenses as graduation and college is around the corner, Our Boys Varsity Basketball team is raising money to purchase their championship rings for their 2023 historic Championship season.
The Varsity Boys Basketball team who was lead by Coach Jamaal Barnes have made school history by being the first Boys Basketball team in Garfield High School’s history to bring home a CIF City Section Championship!! This group of young men deserve every ounce of support they can get. The boys have sacrificed time with family and friends to accomplish this historic goal. From waking up early for 6am practices, to not having a summer off to attend several tournaments around the city, to even having to work around 2 of our boys work schedules who were working part time jobs to help provide for their families. Not to mention the boys also falling to injuries and still being able to have such a successful season. This team’s journey was an exciting one to watch and be a part of to say the least.
What a blessing it was to witness and see the fruits of their labor! We can not thank enough The ELA Community for the abundance of love and support the community has shown our boys and Coach Barnes. To the students of Garfield, Thank you for the loud cheers, the overflow of fans and best of all the confetti showers!! To the parents and families of these amazing group of young men, Thank you for raising such ambitious, respectful, hard working men!
