East Harlem Pride

The East Harlem Pride football program, consisting of 4 small schools in the area, is entering its ninth season in New York City, one of just five such programs in all of Manhattan.  After reaching the semi-finals of New York City's PSAL Cup division in consecutive years, the program has been moved up to the PSAL Bowl Division, a testament to the hard work of our athletes, staff, and administration and the support of many generous folks over the years.   We are excited for the challenges of moving up a division.

We are working hard to provide as many young men as possible with a positive athletic experience and an opportunity to learn about themselves through hard work, teamwork, and competition. Last year, we were able to service over 60 student-athletes.  As our roster has grown, so has the demand for resources and equipment.  Unfortunately, it has been difficult to keep pace with the growing number of student athletes. Last season we actually ran out of helmets and shoulder pads and so could not accommodate everyone who wanted to participate.  This was very disappointing for us and our students.

Our most pressing short term and long term need is helmets.  The most cost effective model is the Riddell Speed Helmet  at $279.99 each.  We need 10 more helmets for this season to ensure that we can get full participation in our junior varsity program.  Additionally, the life span of a football helmet is 10 years.  We will need to retire 30 of our helmets after next season at a tremendous cost to our program.

We are creating an environment where our students can feel good about themselves - proud, accomplished, and positive.   We have a tremendous group of young men who, through football and its instant feedback, are discovering the power of their own agency and joys of working with others towards a common goal.   We build the team and the team builds us!

Each year we are asked to to do more with less. We ask you to support our program in any way possible. Any and all support is greatly appreciated by our athletes and the entire school community.  Each $300 is another helmet and another great opportunity for a young man.

We hope you can also come and watch the Pride compete in person.
