East End Grand Bahama Relief

Many of you know I am who I am because of my Aunt and Uncle,  Mary, Basil, and their children.   As I sit here in comfort I cannot imagine what Bahamians are feeling.  Since 2004 the Knot on the Rocks house has been a constant retreat to many and I have yet to meet an East Ender who did not say how generous and amazing Mary and Basil are, I really could write a whole book on those whose lives they have touched.  The house was damaged but stands!

According to Mary

"Basil and I have a whole new perspective of what we can and are going to do post-Dorian. We may not have a perfect house but we have a house we can share with Jerry, his family, Patricia, and Terrance's family. We have no working vehicle other than Basil's backhoe. That backhoe, with Jerry at the controls, can help the East End dig its way out of Turtle Reef and head towards Freeport. We, on Grand Bahama, will do what must do to revitalize our beautiful island."

Now it is our turn to say thanks to  Jerry and Terrance who very likely saved Knot on the Rocks and support the East End in recovery.  They have lost their homes, vehicles, and much more.   There is no longer Smitty's Gas station and store so the nearest gas and food is in Freeport and the road is currently washed away. The generator is not working and Terrance has already walked to Freeport to retrieve a vehicle and a small generator.   There is a lot that is still to come but what I do know is that Knot on the Rocks is standing and will provide shelter to at least three families while the community struggles to rebuild.

I ask you to join me in funding this community who fought to survive 36hrs of Dorian's wrath and will continue to fight to rebuild.   Funds will go directly to providing supplies to nourish and sustain these families while they rebuild their lives.  If you have been to the island before you are aware of the cost of living.  If not, to put it in context a week of groceries for a family of four is at least $400 dollars, gas and other household items are extremely expensive. Funds will be issued on reloadable cards that  Jerry, Patricia, and Terrance will be given.   Knot on the Rocks will provide shelter while they rebuild their own homes, but these families need and deserve whatever support we can offer.
