East Coast Italian Greyhound Rescue

Donation protected
Hi all Italian Greyhound fans,

for my landmark birthday (don't ask :-) this year January '21, I'm asking for donations to East Coast Italian Greyhound Rescue. This is to honor it's rescue's founder, Mary Frankio, and my 2 precious Italian Greyhounds, I adopted from Mary. Andre and Amelie were both 1 yr old pups when they came into my life in '02 and '03. They both lived until 16.  I adopted my IG boy, Andre, a year after my soulmate/best friend's passing. Andre was born month after my friend died.  He saved my life.

At the time of my adoptions in '02 and '03,  Mary Frankio was, and still is, the volunteer representative for East Coast Italian Greyhound Rescue.  She's saved many of these dog's lives and matched hundreds of IG's with their best suited families.  Mary,  has often, over decades, used her own money for vet care when rescue's budget was depleted. I could tell you many stories of IGs in terrible health, severe tooth decay, emotional trauma so severe they were not adoptable. Over decades, Mary has  kept those dogs that were unadoptable due to trauma, disability, or age. Several of her special needs IG's who were emotionally and physically abused, took years to trust her.  The day a, terribly traumatized, IG finally came and sat next to Mary was a triumph!. After experiencing abuse by their former owners, Mary's patience, and care manifested itself in that moment.

Mary's dedication to, and knowledge of, this breed goes above and beyond. She is the IG Whisperer! Any one on FB who knows Mary, and has adopted an IG or 4 from her, can attest to these stories and add their own. She is highly respected for her encyclopedic knowledge of this breed; and beloved for her ability to have matched so many people with just the right dog(s) as well as her willingness to share her knowledge to help  them in their forever homes. I can honestly say Mary Frankio is a beloved living legend. She'll never toot her own horn, so someone has to . And it might as well be me.

I know many of us are financially stretched, given the bizarre year we've had and a holiday like no other, but this rescue really needs your help!
What all of us have collectively gone thru this year, suggests how many dogs will suffer. If there is no money  to pay for housing, vet bills or food, many dogs will be given up, including Italian Greyhounds! Just $5 or $10 will add up! You don't have to donate a large sum, and for some of us, me included, $20 is a large sum. Every single dollar will help me reach my goal, thereby giving much needed vet care, dentals, food, all things essential to the well being of IG's in need. This crucial help, leading to a successful adoption, and their forever home.

East Coast Italian Greyhound Rescue is one of those truly worthy causes. Why else would I ask all of you, at the end of an unprecedented year, to donate to this most worthy cause? Because Italian Greyhounds are beyond politics and pandemics. They are fragile, beautiful, magical beings who helped many of us during this time. If you had/have an IG or 5, I'm quite sure they helped  you get through these dark days. And for those of us who lost our beloved IG(s),  we are not alone in our grief.  Every day there are many on these IG facebook pages who are grieving the loss of their Italian Greyhound(s). I am one of them.  I've found that a forum, such as this, is a way to honor our precious  Italian Greyhound(s).  It does not bring them back but it does mean that their legacy goes on by helping another one liked them.

As for me, having a birthday on January 3, (for over 5 decades), and which comes on the heels of our collective major holidays, is no fun except this year for this IG fundraiser!!!

And lastly, my heart's  been smitten by IG's since I was 13. They are the most beautiful, loving, magical, companions... as many of you confirm  daily on Italian Greyhound Facebook groups. Please help if you can in any amount.
