How Do You Get to Cooperstown? Practice. Practice. Practice.
(Southwest also flies into Albany)
The Pitch
This summer, 17 boys (Gulp. Young men. Aka the U12 East Bay Cyclones), their coaches, and many of their families will travel to Cooperstown, NY to participate in a very special baseball tournament. For a week, they will eat with, sleep with, laugh with, shower with (we hope), and compete against over 1,000 other boys on 100 other teams from across the United States. To make this a reality, the team is asking for your help to offset some of costs of this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Who Are the Cyclones?
The East Bay Cyclones is a competitive youth baseball club made up of players primarily from Berkeley and Albany, CA. Unique among travel ball clubs, the Cyclones is a “no-cut” program focused more on player and character development than wins and losses. A major goal of the club is to better prepare players to play high school baseball. The program currently includes about 120 boys and girls, aged 9-14. Fees are modest. Coaches are mostly volunteers, but some teams (like the Cyclones U12 Cooperstown team) also have a paid coach. Fees help cover field rentals, equipment, uniforms, trainings, and other expenses. Tournament and other travel expenses are the responsibility of families.
Why Cooperstown?
Cooperstown Dreams Park is a premier national tournament. Receiving an invitation is a privilege and evidence that the Cyclones’ program belongs. And if you are going to play a tournament anywhere, what’s better than playing in the shadow of the Baseball Hall of Fame?
What does my contribution pay for?
The entry fee is $1,000 for every player and coach. This basically covers room and board. It does not cover travel expenses. Donations will cover the coaches’ expenses and scholarships for any families requesting financial aid. We do not let money stand in the way of a player’s opportunity to participate. Note: After coaches’ and scholarship expenses are covered, all funds raised for the Cooperstown trip will be pooled and distributed equally to defray entry fees of all players.
Why should I support this effort?
If you are reading this it is because you, or someone close to you, knows a boy who will directly benefit from your generosity. This trip will be a life-changing experience and memory every player will cherish. More broadly, by donating you will also be advocating for the great game of baseball and for a thoughtful, healthy youth sports culture.
How much should I give?
Only you can answer that question. Our goal for this GoFundMe page is $10,000. In order to achieve this, we need our supporters to give as generously as they can. But every gift makes a difference. As an extra incentive, for each $50 donated before March 31st, you will be entered in a raffle to win a week in Hawaii!! See details here .
Anything else?
Yes. Thank you in advance for letting the Cyclones “Play Ball!”
