Saying Goodbye To Tracer
Donation protected
If you’ve ever had the chance to meet Tracer “Good Girl” Leahy, you learned 4 things were certain:
1) She is ANXIOUS.
2) She is DUMB.
3) Her FEET smell like FRITOS.
And…
4) She immediately loved you at first sight, adopted you on the spot as her newest best friend, and then promptly grunted and rolled over to demand belly pats from you.
My name’s Cassie. I met Tracer in 2017 after I drove to a farm in Peyton, CO to meet a 2-year old corgi I found for sale on Craigslist. I was just initially going to meet her in order to see if we’d be a good fit— but when I opened my car door, before I knew it, a corgi had jumped right into the car, onto my lap, and looked up at me excitedly, as if to say: “There you are! Let’s go home.” 8 beautiful years have passed since then, with my best friend Tracer always by my side.
Two days ago, I took Tracer to the vet because she suddenly started having dry coughing fits.
Tracer has cancer.
It is rapidly growing in her left lung area and pushing her spine and lungs and other organs so hard, that it’s deviating her spine and collapsing her airway. Her coughing fits are her struggling to breathe because the mass is growing so big, so fast. One day soon, it might grow so large that she could suffocate.
I don’t want that for her. I don’t want my best friend, my companion, my potato, my dog who thinks she’s my second mother, to suffer like that. On her last day, I don’t want to bring Tracer to the cold, scary vet clinic. I don’t want her to hide under the bench as the vet tech takes her vitals one last time. I don’t want to walk out of the clinic, past the other dog owners bringing in their brand new puppy, just moments after I put my best friend of 8 years to sleep.
For Tracer, I would like for her to pass away at home, in her bed, in my arms, surrounded by those who loved her.
100% of the proceeds raised will go to the following:
1. Euthanasia at home - $450
2. Cremation - $175
3. Any money raised over the goal will be put towards: a potential oncology appointment for Tracer, pain medication, Tracer’s favorite treats, end-of-life comfort care, and a little gas money for Cassie to drive Tracer to two sentimental places one last time while Tracer is still alive (two city parks: one in Florence, one in Westminster).
I’m sorry I can’t offer much in return, but to anyone who donates $10 or more to this cause, I will gladly mail you a Tracer ink paw print on cardstock if you would like one, and maybe some Tracer fluff.
Thank you for reading this far.
Cassie wants you to know she will make the best decisions possible for Tracer and herself both.
And Tracer wants you to know:
“life ain’t too heck”.
