Last month I was informed that the kids and I would need to leave our home due to the property being sold. It has been one of the most stressful months I've experienced, but I’m incredibly grateful that we have secured another place to live.

Unfortunately, the transition has not been smooth. Because I was unable to vacate as quickly as everyone involved in the sale would have preferred, the situation has become increasingly contentious. As a result, I am deeply concerned that recovering my nearly $3,000 in security deposits may become a lengthy battle.

While I understand there are legal protections in place, bills don't wait for legal timelines. Moving expenses, utility deposits, transportation costs, and the countless unexpected expenses that come with relocating have already stretched my budget to its limit.

As a single mother working two jobs, even an unexpected $200 expense can take weeks to recover from. Right now, I have to prepare for the possibility that those deposits may not be returned promptly, if at all, and budget accordingly.
