Thank you for taking the time to support our sister, Sara! Sara was diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia on November 23rd, a shock to everyone, just before the 2025 holiday season. She immediately entered into a week of in-patient care based on her enlarged spleen and extremely high white blood cell count. A bone marrow biopsy confirmed our biggest fear. After spending Thanksgiving in the hospital room, she transferred to out-patient treatment under the direct care of her oncologist.

On behalf of Sara and our family, we’re asking for your financial support to help offset what is already a huge burden to carry.

Sara is one of the strongest people we know. For the past seven years, she has served the community of Virginia Beach as a 9-1-1 dispatcher - the calm, steady voice on the line during someone's worst moments. During the first few months of her treatment, cancer forced Sara to take a leave of absence from her job and she has since reentered the Dispatch workforce - however, she no longer receives the same pay, does not have any short-term disability, and has nearly exhausted her banked leave. For the foreseeable future, she will have a harder time taking leave for appointments and treatment, and earning additional pay, without a financial cost.

To this point she and immediate family have shouldered the financial undertaking on our own. Sara liquidated her savings account to cover her related medical expenses, all while continuing to show grit and determination in the face of a lifetime of costs - both seen and unseen. She needs more sustainable support to make her financially whole again, and to ease the cost of what will be a lifetime of medical care - that’s where you can help.

All funds will go directly toward:

-Treatment expenses

-Medication costs

-Additional needs that support her recovery (e.g. wage loss, rebuilding savings account, unexpected variations in her recovery journey)
