Easing the Burden for Sommer's Family in Grief

Hi everyone,

I'm reaching out to ask for support for someone incredibly special to me. My dear friend is going through something no one should ever have to face. Her amazing father passed away on April 29th after a difficult battle with terminal liver cancer. His daughter Sommer was by his side, holding his hand as he took his last breath. He wasn’t just her father—he was her very best friend.

He was truly one of a kind—a single father who raised an incredible family. A man who was always there for his neighbors as the go-to handyman, and someone who would literally give you the shirt off his back. He was even voted “Best Dad” by the mayor—that’s the kind of impact he had on everyone around him.

He leaves behind not only Sommer, but also his other two children, Rebecca and Dale, all of whom are devastated by this loss. He was also a proud and loving “Poppy” to 19 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, who adored him more than words can say.

Now, on top of their grief, his children—especially Sommer—are left to handle all of the funeral arrangements, cover the household bills, and manage everything he left behind. It’s an overwhelming burden at an already heartbreaking time. Rebecca and Dale are doing everything they can to support Sommer through this, but they’re all facing an uphill climb.

The home they shared was also Sommer’s childhood home, filled with decades of memories. She’s doing everything she can to try and maintain the household and keep up with the bills, because keeping that home means keeping a piece of her dad with her.
