My name is Stacy Wyrick, and writing this is one of the hardest things I have ever had to do. Asking for help means setting aside pride, but our family’s reality has led us here, and we are reaching out with honesty and humility.
We are raising funds to help cover our monthly living expenses as my husband, Douglas Wyrick, continues to fight a long and complicated battle with cancer and its ongoing effects.
Douglas’s journey began in 2023 with a diagnosis of esophageal cancer. He underwent a major surgery—an esophagectomy—to remove the tumor itself. At the time, we believed we were moving forward. However, just four months later, we learned the cancer had metastasized to his brain. That first brain tumor began affecting his speech and mobility, changing our lives in ways we never could have prepared for.
Three months after that diagnosis, we were devastated to learn that Douglas had another brain tumor. A craniotomy was performed to remove the first tumor, and the second tumor was treated with radiation. At this time, we are still waiting for results to determine whether further surgery may be necessary.
Recently, Douglas has developed new and worsening symptoms, including aphasia seizures and now grand mal seizures. His doctors currently believe these symptoms may be caused by scar tissue from the previous surgical site, but we remain in a period of uncertainty until additional testing is completed and more definitive answers are given.
Because of the seizures, Douglas is no longer able to drive, and I have become his full-time transportation to and from medical appointments—many of which are over an hour away from our home. The newest medication prescribed to control his seizures has left him extremely fatigued and frustrated, making it very difficult for him to work consistently.
At the same time, I am no longer able to work myself. I had to retire from doing hair due to ongoing back issues, and now my role as Douglas’s full-time caregiver requires me to be home. Between managing his care, frequent medical travel, and the emotional toll of this journey, returning to work simply isn’t possible right now.
The financial strain has become overwhelming. Monthly expenses—housing, utilities, fuel, groceries, and medical-related costs—continue, even as our ability to earn income has been drastically reduced.
Asking for help does not come easily, but we are doing so with gratitude and hope. Any contribution, no matter how small, truly helps ease the burden and allows us to focus on what matters most: Douglas’s health, healing, and keeping our family stable during this incredibly challenging time.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for reading our story, for caring, and for any support you are able to give—whether through a donation, sharing our fundraiser, or keeping our family in your thoughts and prayers.
With sincere gratitude,
Stacy & Douglas Wyrick
