Amanda and Nikki are facing a battle no family should have to fight alone.
What started as routine blood work quickly turned into something far more serious. After multiple follow-up tests and a bone marrow biopsy, Amanda was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML), an aggressive form of blood cancer that requires immediate and intensive treatment.
In the coming weeks, Amanda will spend extended time in the hospital undergoing chemotherapy, with the likelihood of additional hospitalizations for a bone marrow transplant. This treatment plan will require her to step away from work for a significant period of time, adding financial strain to an already overwhelming situation.
This is not the first time this family has faced cancer. In late 2021, Amanda was diagnosed with fallopian tube cancer (a rare and aggressive form of ovarian cancer). She underwent major surgery in 2022, followed by an intense regimen of chemotherapy, both inpatient and outpatient. Despite being dedicated to her job as a social worker for over 20 years, that battle exhausted her leave. After treatment, she endured another surgery and two years of maintenance medication that brought ongoing health challenges.
Just as they were beginning to find stability again, the family was hit with more devastating news. In March 2025, Nikki was diagnosed with breast cancer. She underwent surgery, completed radiation, and still takes medication to prevent recurrence.
Through all of this, Amanda and Nikki have remained strong for each other and for their 7-year-old son, who is truly the light of their lives.
Asking for help is not easy for them. They have carried so much on their own and have never wanted to burden others. But the reality is, the emotional and financial toll of back-to-back medical crises is immense, and overwhelming.
