Felix’s Journey

I am starting this for my best friend, Amanda and her amazing cat, Felix. Amanda is not the type that will ever ask for help.. even when it’s needed.

Let me introduce you to Felix. Felix came into her life back in 2014. She was working at a shelter the it turns out.. wasn’t the best. Felix was very young, weighed just over a pound, and was very sick. He wasn’t responding to the medicine they tried and they were going to put him to sleep. Amanda adopted him just prior to quitting that job after finding out it wasn’t very good there. (Don’t worry the place does not exist anymore).

He was sick since day one. She went to her vet immediately and went to every specialist she could to try and find out what was going on. He had high fevers and bad respiratory problems that just would not quit. She tried every medicine and did every test. Still no answers. The vet did find a combination of an antibiotic and a steroid that helped him and he’s been on that ever since.
December of 2014 he came down with cholangiohepatitis. He was treated and bounced back. After that he had an ultrasound of all of his organs done and there were small abnormalities but nothing that gave any answers.

In 2017 he was having a lot of issues with his left eye. He kept squinting non stop and just seemed uncomfortable. She couldn’t get him into the eye specialist she knew of as she was out for months with a medical issue so had to go to someone else. They performed a surgery on both eyes to remove eyelashes that were turned inward cutting his eyes. They didn’t do very well…. He ended up having the surgery repeated months later when the original specialist was back to work as he had continued problems.
In 2022 he had his right eye removed due to severe ulcers. He did very well with one eye even though he formed a pretty large cataract in his remaining eye. By 2024 he had bad ulcers forming in his left eye that were super painful. She opted to remove this eye as well. He had done very well without eyes and is so much happier to be pain free.

But… during his eye removal bloodwork they found out he is now diabetic. He is on a medication they treats that. In the last year he has battled some stomach issues resulting in trying so many new foods before finding the right one, weight loss from all of his medicines and now some respiratory issues.
Like I said, Amanda will never ask for help. She has already paid off over $50,000 in his medical debt with at least $20,000 to go. His food is roughly $250-$300 a month and his medicine is roughly $250 a month. This isn’t including all of his vet bills. Amanda will always say he is 100% her responsibility and no one else’s but I’d love to be able to at least help her a little. Maybe not with the old stuff but maybe some of the ongoing costs to avoid more debt from piling up.

Felix is one of the sweetest cats I’ve ever met and he deserves the amazing life he has been given even when it costs a lot of money.
