In January 2026, Carly & Amos found out that their cat, Bagherra, has cancer across his chest and near his heart. The emergency room bills have already become cumbersome as they navigate what this means for Bagherra's comfort and care. Doctors have given Bagherra a short life expectancy, so more bills are on the way as Carly & Amos assist Bagherra's transition. We need your help to take the financial pressure off of Carly & Amos so they can concentrate on providing loving attention to their beloved pet.
What we're asking
Carly & Amos have already incurred bills of almost $2,000 to identify what was wrong with Bagherra and get him some medication to reduce his pain and symptoms. They are expecting additional bills between $500 to $1,000 to provide in-home transition (euthanasia) and cremation. We are asking for your help to cover these costs, a goal of $3,000. This is a one-time donation request for immediate support.
The diagnosis
Carly noticed earlier in the week that Bagherra was not eating as much as usual. She made an appointment with Bagherra's vet at Moreland to give him a general check-up to see why he might not be eating. The vet's exam didn't point to anything overly alarming, and they decided to do some urine and blood analysis to see if they could locate the problem. Bagherra has a vasovagal (drop of blood pressure, fainting, vomiting, and heavy breathing) response to the needle used for a urine sample. The vets rushed him to care, trying to stabilize his heartbeat. They were able to make him somewhat stable but directed Carly to take him to the ER for further examination.
Carly took Bagherra to Dove Lewis emergency vet care. Vets there took blood samples and ultrasound to further assess Bagherra's condition. The ultrasound located grey matter near his heart. A follow up x-ray found that grey matter to be cancer, which was already advanced and had spread across his entire chest. The vet prescribed medication to make Bagherra more comfortable and suggested euthanasia. Because Bagherra is still alert and walking, Carly decided to bring Bagherra home for palliative care.
Getting to know Carly & Bagherra
Bagherra is an almost 12-year-old male cat living in Portland, Oregon. He has been Carly's emotional support animal for all of his life, providing companionship and purpose in some of Carly's most challenging periods. He has an almost twin sister, Ace, both short black hair kitties with green eyes. Bagherra lives with Carly & Amos, Ace, and his brothers and sisters Luci (another senior cat), and the doggos: Olive and Pepper.
Carly is a thoughtful and giving person, putting her whole heart into all she does. She is a wife, a daughter, a best friend, and a small business owner. She runs a full-time reselling business, @bargainstalker. She is well respected in her industry and has an emerging presence in the local market scene. As an entrepreneur, the sudden emotional and financial impacts are exponential.
Your support will help Carly focus on providing care for Bagherra, but will also assist with the loss of income incurred while celebrating this little life.
