Hi everyone! It’s me, Ashley. As most of you know, I have been battling Stage 4 Metastatic Triple Negative Breast Cancer for the past year. So far, I’ve had the disease spread to my lungs (x2), lymph nodes, liver, brain (x3), and my bones (x4). I’ve also had 2 surgeries (craniotomy to remove brain tumor & a rod placed in my tibia), soon to be 3 (a rod placed in my femur), since June of 2024.
Unfortunately, I have been largely unlucky with chemotherapy, having unfavorable results with 3 different medications since last year as well. Due to the continued spread of my disease, the significant pain I experience daily, and the horrible side effects from my treatment, I have had to make the decision to stop working and go on long-term disability from work. I will likely never be able to return to work again as I will very likely have less than a year left to live. As the primary income provider for our household, this impacts us significantly. Thankfully, I will have access to disability benefits from my job, but that will only provide me with 50% of my usual wages. To top it all off, even just that 50% of my usual income puts me over the income limit for services such as SSDI, Medicaid, and SNAP.
I have actively been seeking out resources in my area through private programs as well; however, those typically have the same income requirements as federal/state-run support. In addition to our daily living expenses, I have had to begin thinking about planning for my final expenses as well and trying to leave some resources available to my husband to start over after I’m gone. Unfortunately, I don’t live in a country where help is readily available for this, and I have largely been navigating this on my own, with help from my husband, my loved ones, and my therapist. But I’d really like to take some strain off of my support system and, while I cannot ease their emotional stress over the idea of losing me, I am hopeful that I could potentially ease the financial burden this has presented.
This fundraiser is focused solely on helping me and my husband get by for the final months of my life and to support my family in covering my final expenses so that they can all move forward from my death as best they can. Many of you have already been incredibly giving and generous during the past 5 years, and I completely understand if financial support is something you are unable to give at this time. I am also asking for prayers, positive thoughts, and peaceful energy if possible. Please share this fundraiser if you are willing and able.
Again, I thank every single one of you for the support and encouragement you’ve provided to myself and my family over this 5+ year cancer battle. I will continue to fight this thing as hard as I can as long as it is feasible and realistic. I will also focus on trying to make my transition out of this life as comfortable and positive as it possibly can be. Thank you all again for your continued support and love. I am so lucky to have known each of you in this life and will be eternally grateful. ❤️
