Ease the Burden for Derek and Dorothy Blackburn

Hello, my name is Kendall (Dorian). I am raising money to help a coworker friend Derek take care of his mother Dorothy Blackburn. Nearly two years ago Dorothy was diagnosed with leukemia. Since then, her conditioned has deteriorated so much so that she is unable to work and is in constant pain. Each day Dorothy adheres to a strict schedule of medication to combat her cancer. However, the medicine leaves her feeling weak, tired, and miserable. Routine task for her have become a struggle. Just recently Dorothy suffered a fall accident at her home, resulting in a severely dislocated hip. This along with her compromised health makes healing from this injury impossible.

Derek works full-time at Publix supermarket as a meat cutter. He puts his heart and passion into his craft. That same heart and passion moves him to go to greater lengths to care for his ailing mother. As they navigate through the turbulence of Dorothy's cancer, the medical expenses are piling up. The doctor visits are becoming frequent, up to extended stays at the hospital. On many occasions, Derek has to take time off from work to see to his mother's care. The combination of all these factors adds to the mental, physical, and financial stress on the family. Despite the challenges he faces, Derek continues to show up for work with a smile on his face, ready to serve his community with stalwart dedication and kindness. Derek is not one to ask for favors or a handout. On the contrary he is usually the one freely offering assistance to others in need.
