This week, my dear friend Alyssa faced one of the hardest moments a pet parent can go through — she had to say goodbye to her sweet dog, Duncan. After a sudden decline and urgent veterinary visits, Duncan was diagnosed with severe intestinal cancer. Despite every effort to help him, the kindest choice was to let him go peacefully.

Duncan wasn’t just a pet. He was family. He was the warm greeting at the door, the comfort on hard days, the goofy joy that made everyone who met him smile. Losing him has left a huge hole in my friend’s life and heart.

Along with the emotional weight of this loss, she’s now facing the unexpected financial burden of emergency vet visits, diagnostics, and end-of-life care. These costs added up quickly and are incredibly overwhelming during an already painful time.
