Hello everyone, and welcome.

As you may have heard, the island Cebu in the Philippines has endured a 6.9 magnitude earthquake. The fallout has been predictably disastrous, and the northern region of Cebu has been hit particularly hard.

Vital water lines have broken, electricity has been lost and restored and lost again, and many public buildings and private homes have crumbled or been structurally compromised, forcing families to live outside.

Including our family—my wife’s brother, his wife, and their two children, to be precise. Because they were forced to evacuate their home without a single moments notice, their current, temporary home is a large tarp suspended by minimal, metal scaffolding. Because it only has a roof, even a slight breeze will cause the intermittent rain to soak them, the ground, and their bedding.

Since learning of the earthquake, all the members of the Griño clan (including the Donohue branch) have been in contact with them, checked on their safety, and have organized, paid for, and delivered help. And they are standing strong: Mark and Deniesa are doing an admirable job as parents and providers.

And so we continue to try and help as best we can. To make a long story short, our short term goals in raising money are to provide them with the following:

We are also raising money in consideration of the hidden costs of this calamity that we cannot anticipate, but which inevitably arise in the wake of such misfortunes.
