Dear friends,
I know lots of you have been kindly asking me how best to help the people of Turkey. I’ve needed a little time to research before responding.
The reason was, I wanted to channel any aid correctly. To ensure we are providing the correct support to the correct people to make an actual change on the ground. Not just sending money to a random organisation that’s politically driven and picks and chooses who to help to fit their own agenda.
After speaking to my father, family and friends who are all out there, they have said the main need for these people is homes, shelter, hygiene, and somewhere to live and start to rebuild some form of life. Although it’s very cold in some areas, they are generally well-fed and clothed and have asked for no more items like that to be sent but help for accommodation and recovery solutions.
Therefore, we've reached out to a suitable not-for-profit, voluntary organisation called Ahbap (https://ahbap.org)
They have pledged to deliver thousands of containers to affected regions. The containers will be kitted out and used as homes, schools, elderly care centres and many other similar services.
This organisation has now got permission to deliver 2,000 of these container homes to Hatay, a severely affected area. These will be delivered within days.
They are now waiting for permission to deliver more to other areas too. Fundraising has begun to fund these, from buying the container, kitting it out and delivering to the areas. These will make real changes, and allow people to start rebuilding themselves a base while the rescue and rebuild process continues.
If you would like to help, you can donate directly to them if you have a Turkish bank account on the link above for their website, but I have made it easier for my friends in the UK by setting up this Go Fund Me page which you can donate to and I will send it all to them directly.
I know times are tough here in the UK too, but whatever you can spare would be a great help. Alternatively, simply sharing this post will be great support too .
I am planning on heading out soon with a small group to help where we can once the rescue crews have done their bit as currently, we would just be getting in their way. For anyone that fancies joining us please feel free to contact me if you would like more information.
Thank you in advance.
