Earthquake Recovery Milanes Family Anna Touchton

Hi, my name is Anna and my family of 6 recently experienced a 6.4 earthquake at our home in Rio Dell, California on 12/20/22 at 2:34am. I was actually awake feeding our 10 month old baby when the quake hit. I immediately moved to a doorway inbetween our kitchen and living rooms. The shaking was so violent that I had to brace my body against the doorframe as the house was shifting back and forth knocking my body. Almost everything fell off the walls, off the shelves, and out of every cabinet within a matter of 30 seconds. The power immediately went out. At first, all we could do was yell to our children as there was glass EVERYWHERE and everyone except myself and the baby were in bed. Fortunately, the only places that didn't have items fall on them were our sleeping areas :) For two days we didn't have power, water, or heat so cleaning up was a bit unrealistic. Once we received power and water, we began the cleanup process.

At first it seemed that we made it through the event unscathed....however, as we delve into more of the clean-up, we are finding home repairs that are needed but we cannot afford them and do not have earthquake insurance. Both of our bathrooms sustained significant damage and repairs are needed with one toilet and both showers. Underneath the house it appears the house has shifted on the foundation. We need to jack up the house so that it can be moved back over and resecured. One shed in the backyard fell off its foundation blocks and will need to be lifted back onto them. Another outbuilding is leaning with a compromised structure and will need to be removed. These repairs are why we are asking for financial help from our community of friends and family.
