Ears Up for Ashley

Ashley has been a dedicated nurse for 6 years. She started her nursing career at the Kansas City VA and worked the last 5 years at KU's health system. She has been a mentor and leader to everyone she has worked with. Not only does she work as a clinical nurse, but she is also an educator. She has educated hundreds of nursing students in skills lab and is involved in educating hundreds of providers in code blue simulations. Ashley is in her 4th year of DNP (Doctorate of Nurse Practitioner) school and is expected to graduate in 2022. 

When Ashley heard that there was a need for those to serve Covid patients, she answered the call. Ashley was nearing the end of her travel assignment in St. Louis when she fell ill with this virus. She went into the ER on June 3rd, 2020 and was intubated on June 9th, 2020.  Her journey is going to be a long one to recovery.

Ashley is one of the most selfless people there are. Her answering this call to help serve those in need shows how selfless she is. Her family, friends, and patients know just how big her heart is. She puts everyone else before herself and will do anything to make people happy and smile. She is the true definition of the spirit of nursing. 

Since Ashley was in transition of ending her travel assignment and returning to KU, it is unclear what her health insurance will cover. It is also unknown when she will be able to come back to work and continue with schooling. First and foremost, we are asking for prayers. Prayers that she will have the strength to make it through this.
