It's tough to get kids motivated to read. There is so much competition for their time--Instagram, Snapchat, TV, music videos. But Ms. Sherman has found the secret to motivating her students to read lots and lots of books: the Accelerated Reader program.  Kids read books and take an AR comprehension quiz.  AR awards points and Ms. Sherman  awards prizes.  Ms. Sherman's students all have become passionate readers, painlessly.  Year after year they have made substantial learning gains in reading because they are reading all of the time and enjoying it! Those gains are permanent. Once a child is a proficient in reading, it cannot be taken away from them. 

Unfortunately, the school district no longer funds AR and Ms. Sherman's Title I school does not have funds or a PTA to raise funds for this purpose. Ms. Sherman is raising funds to purchase the AR program for her classroom, and her school, for 2017-2018.  Please consider contributing--you will be making an enormous difference in the trajectory of a child's life.
