What began as a routine stress test for our good friend Earl ended up with life threatening results—he was having a massive heart attack. Earl’s coronary arteries were severely occluded due to past radiation treatments he received for Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. A quintuple bypass surgery was his only option.

But that would only be the beginning to his fight. Earl would go on to contract both pneumonia and Covid shortly after his surgery, making his already critical condition even moreso. There were some tense times but we are lucky to say that Earl is now making great progress with his recovery, but still needs our help.

I met Earl through his role as one of the founders of Carve 4 Cancer. Many likely know that in October 2006, Earl was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma for which he received chemotherapy and radiation to the mantle area of his body (jaw to chest). While this treatment has enabled him to be in remission for 16 years, it ravaged the blood vessels supplying his heart, the long-term effects of which just recently showed up.

Earl became involved in the 'Buddy Program' at Jefferson hospital after his stem cell transplant, and is where he first met Brent Evans. Earl and Brent formed a friendship and an alliance, and went on together to spearhead Carve4Cancer.com. Today Carve is an event that is a part of the LiveLikeBrent.com foundation that raises funds for people who are enduring the battle with blood cancers.

Many of us know Earl as a person whose focus is giving back to others, spreading high fives and positive vibes, connecting friends through common interests and always finding a new path for adventure. He now finds himself on the opposite end of his comfort zone and needs his community to rally around him. Please consider donating here to help Earl cover basic living expenses such as rent, utilities, food, transportation and medical expenses that insurance may not cover. He will continue to be out of work until at least May.
We will continue to update this page and provide updates along the way. Thank you for your support!
