This beautiful, free-spirited little boy is our 2.5 year old son, Bennett.

Bennett was born with a craniofacial difference called Hemifacial Microsomia.

(HFM) is a condition in which part of one side of the face is underdeveloped. Bennett’s left ear, cheekbone, lower jaw, facial nerves, and hearing nerve are all affected. Although the cause is unknown, it is believed that HFM is likely caused by a disruption in blood perfusion to his face around 6-8 weeks gestation.

Bennett’s ear difference is called Microtia. Simply put, Microtia is a birth condition in which the ear does not develop properly, causing a child’s ear to be small, malformed or missing. He is deaf on the left side but has normal hearing on the right so he wears a hearing aid to help localize sounds!

We would love to give Bennett the gift of an ear. After an extensive search for the best and most reputable doctor, we found Dr. Sheryl Lewin in Torrance, Ca. Dr. Lewin uses a 3D scanner to create a precise mirror-image of a patient’s natural ear. The 3D ear design is then sent to Su-Por, where it is transformed into an intricately detailed sterile implant.

Because Bennett’s differences are so unique he will need two ear surgeries. One to move his little ear to a more anatomically correct position and another to place the 3D ear implant. Even with private insurance the cost for surgeries and travel is significant.
