Eamon McCormack needs DBS Surgery
Donation protected
Eamon McCormack, originally from Shannon, but now living in Sixmilebridge, Co. Clare was diagnosed with an Essential Tremor, a neurological movement disorder. At present, and after many medications over the years, it now effects both his right and left hands. Eamon needs DBS surgery, so that he can do everyday tasks like making a cup of tea, holding a knife and fork, shaving and writing.
After seeing Prof. Tim Counihan in UHG, he referred Eamon to see Prof. Richard Walsh, Consultant Neurologist of the Deep Brain Stimulation Service in the Mater Hospital in Dublin. After Assessments conducted in March 2024, and because Eamon’s Essential Tremor is so severe, he has now been offered Deep Brain Surgery with Dr. Erlick Pereira in The London Clinic in May 2024. This procedure involves the surgeon implanting a tin wire lead into two parts of Eamon’s Brain, with several electrodes at the tip, into the movement area of the brain. The wire will then run under the skin to a device called a neurostimulator implanted near the collarbone.
After this surgery, the neurostimulator will need to be tuned to the correct frequency in the Dublin Mater Hospital in order to deliver electrical stimulation to targeted areas in the brain that control movement and blocking the abnormal nerve signals that cause the tremor.
We are raising funds to help with medical costs, travelling and accommodation while in the London Clinic and afterwards while Eamon will be in the Mater Hospital in Dublin, where he will return to Prof. Richard Walsh to get the implanted neurostimulator regulated.
Can you can please help give Eamon a normal quality of life back ? Deep Brain Simulation (DBS) Surgery is now the only avenue that can do this.
Any donation you can afford to give would be very much appreciated.
Thank you !
