Yesterday, Cody Shumate was Involved in an accident at work and was rushed to Memorial Herman downtown. He was pinned between a forklift and a truck which created mass trauma in his abdominal area. He was sent back to the OR immediately for emergency surgery. His femoral artery had several tears and was a severe cause of internal bleeding. A large portion of his intestines were cut off from blood supply and had to be removed as well as part of his colon. He has a small fracture on the right side of his spine and a few other internal injuries.

He just recently got out of his second intensive surgery to reconnect his organs, and while the outcome yielded positive results, the reality of his long recovery ahead set in. He is currently being monitored in the STICU, where he will remain for the next couple of days.

I am asking for your support as Cody is the sole provider for his family. Cody and his fiancé, Kenzie, have a son, Blaise, with SMA (Spinal Muscular Atrophy), which turned Kenzie strictly into a stay-at-home mom to care for him.
