Get Eaglestrike to Worlds!

Help us get our robotics team to World Championships!

My name is Kat Nasif, and I am a member of Team 114, a FIRST Robotics Competition team from Los Altos, California. The GoFundMe is co-managed by my father, Michael Scruggs, as a beneficiary.

Every year, Los Altos High School’s robotics team, Eaglestrike (also known as Team 114), participates in FIRST Robotics Competition, an annual competition where teams of high school students build a robot to compete with other teams in a predetermined game.

This year, at the Ventura Regional Competition in Ventura, California, our team qualified for World Championships, a more elite competition reserved only for teams that win regional competitions or receive other honors.

We have only qualified for World Championships once before in our 22 years as a team. With so many new students on the team this year, many of our students have never gone. Countless hours were put into building and making this robot functional, and we want our kids to be able to show off their hard work at World Championships!

However, this prestigious tournament is held in Houston, Texas, making the trip much more expensive than regional competitions. Fees include a $5,000 registration fee and plane/hotel tickets for each student. The estimated cost per student is $1,400, which is way too much for many of our families to afford.

All proceeds of this GoFundMe will be used to offset the cost of the trip, so that more students can afford to attend. This means that the money will go to the school first so that they can reduce costs for student attendance. The money will be withdrawn by Michael Scruggs, team parent, to a personal account before being directly donated to the Team 114 fund via check. This is done in order to avoid school rules which prohibit funds from being directly raised and deposited in the fund but allow for private, cumulative donations from friends and family. Not to mention, but our district policy states the school and teachers can not directly withdraw funds, so a team parent withdrawing funds will have to suffice.

Donate and share this page with friends and family so we can get Team 114 to World Championships!
