Eagle Project for PISD Swap Shop
Donation protected
Hello Pearland Friends,
My name is Jakob.... I am a Life Scout with Boy Scout Troop 464, right here in Pearland. We are chartered by the First United Methodist Church and are the oldest troop in Pearland. I am entering my Senior year at Pearland High School, where I am on the Men's Soccer Team. Additionally, I am also a member of the KRUSH Youth Ministry at New Hope Church. I am now approaching the peak of my Scouting career and working hard on my Eagle Project.
During Hurricane Harvey, I did some volunteering at Pearland ISD's Swap Shop. It is a place where any Pearland student can “go shopping” – they can get dress code approved clothing by exchanging outgrown clothes, or with no strings attached with a referral from their school. The Swap Shop supports thousands of Pearland students each year.
Our Swap Shop desperately needs organization and storage fixtures/containers. I have partnered with Mrs. Healy who oversees the Swap Shop, to make this my Eagle Project. I am committed to the front 1/3 of the portable building where the Swap Shop is housed. I will be building 12 - three tier shelves which will be used to display shoes, bins of socks and underwear – after I sort and organize it all. The shelving units will be on casters. This will allow flexibility for future use and also ensure that if PISD relocates the Swap Shop, the shelving units will continue to serve their purpose. The added benefit to executing this project for the Swap Shop is the most important one – it will help to provide a normalized, easy, and safe place for Swap Shop shoppers to “shop”!
My project will cost an estimated $2000 to execute. I have received a grant from the PTA Council in the amount of $250, for which I am extremely grateful.
I have also been graciously supported by the following Pearland businesses: Storm Guardian Generators, Pearland Pediatrics, Holt Family Dental, Killen's Steakhouse, and McCoy's Building Supplies.
I am now seeking community partners who will help with the last leg - $1000 - to fund this very worthwhile project so that my team can finish this service project and our Pearland students can begin to benefit from this partnership. I very humbly ask you to consider contributing any amount towards this project. Wouldn't it be great if we could finish this in time to prepare for this school year?
Sincerely,
Jakob Patino
