Eagle Scout Raised Garden Beds (Greenville, SC)

Tax deductible
Hello! I’m Matthew Cotner, a Junior at Greenville Senior High School in Greenville, SC, and a member of Boy Scouts Troop 19. Scouting is an important part of my life and I have enjoyed participating in Troop 19 since I was 10 years old. My favorite things to do as a Scout are camping and service projects. This fall I will be working to earn the Eagle Scout Award by building a raised bed garden at my church.

Our family has attended Christ Church Episcopal since my birth 16 years ago. As a lifelong church member, I find it fitting that my Eagle Scout project will be something that benefits Christ Church and the larger Greenville community.

The idea was developed when I went to a few members at the church to discuss potential projects. The church’s grounds committee wanted to do a raised garden bed project in a vacant lot owned by the church. The raised beds will beautify the existing, bare lot and provide green space for vegetables, fruits, and herbs to be grown. The project will to benefit not only the parish, but also our food ministries, the on campus preschool, and the community.

Over the summer, I’ve worked with numerous church members, staff, and other building professionals to prepare a sustainable plan for building a 4-5-bed raised bed garden. My construction dates will be at the end of October to the beginning of November on weekends when I am out of school. I estimate that it will take four weekends to build with a $3,500 project total budget (that includes materials to build the boxes, plumbing, irrigation, mulch, and hauling expenses.)

The picture you see is a schematic of what the final project will look like on a piece of land adjacent to Christ Church on Broadus Ave.

Your financial support will help me achieve my Eagle Scout award and make this raised bed construction project successful. Any money you donate is tax deductible.

In exchange for your gifts, I will keep you updated on the progress of the project. If you would like to help on the construction days, please email me directly via GoFundMe.
