Hi, my name is Jacob Shropshire. I am a life scout currently working on getting my Eagle Scout rank. The most important and last step of getting my eagle rank is the Eagle scout project. When deciding on what I would like my project to be, I had the idea to create a memorial garden dedicated to the lives of the unborn.

In our modern culture, little value is placed on the lives of the unborn. The unborn, meaning those who are aborted, miscarried, or stillborn are often wrongly dehumanized and treated as worthless. In Jeremiah 1:5 God said to Jeremiah “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you”. When we lose someone close to us, we have a collective experience mourning their loss with friends and family, and honor their memory with graves or monuments but the same cannot be said about the unborn. When completed, my hope is for this project to provide a place that helps bring closure and comfort to families mourning the loss of their child and to couples struggling to bear children, and be a way to honor the lives of the most vulnerable and overlooked of us.

After careful consideration and planning with the beneficiary, Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Wilkesboro, the project will be constructed in the open area next to the playground. When completed, this project will consist of a garden containing a gravel path towards a center area. A bench will sit behind the center area. A granite marker stating the dedication of the garden will sit off the side of the center area. A tree is already present on the site and will give shade over the bench during warm months.

For this project to see reality, however, funding is required. I have estimated a preliminary cost of around 2000 dollars. Which is why today I am asking you to contribute to this project by monetary donation. I hope that you will find it in your heart today to donate to this cause. Thank you.
