eSight For Abrielle

Donation protected

Abrielle is an exceptional 14 year old (and we're not just saying that because we're her parents). Every day she gets up and goes to school, knowing that it’s going to be a constant struggle for her to keep up with her peers. That’s because Abrielle has been legally blind since birth.

For those that don’t know, this means that Abrielle can only see very little of what the rest of us see, and only with a lot of work. She’s doing incredibly well in school, but that’s because of her own determination to sometimes need to spend hours at night on homework that may only take other students 20 minutes. Although she’s given extra support at school, I see how much Abrielle’s wants to have her own independence. If materials are not printed in large font, or her aide is away, the day becomes that much harder for our daughter.

While there is technology that somewhat helps her, it’s not easliy portable, which means Abrielle can often only sit in specific areas in class. This makes it difficult with her to interact with other students and we see how hard it is for her when all of her friends can easily do group work, or sit near friends, but she has to sit according to how she can best see.

When we found out about eSight, we were SO EXCITED.  Abrielle recently had the opportunity to give them a test drive and her reaction was automatic! She smiled directly into my eyes.  !!!  It was an overwhelming moment for everyone in the room.

While she wanted to take them home that day (and we want that for her!), the cost of the glasses is a little more than we can afford on our own. The glasses cost $15,000 and we’re determined that Abrielle will get them so that she can finally see the world like the rest of us do!

These eSight glasses will give Abrielle her independence, will allow her to move freely around school and her classrooms without feeling tethered to her cumbersome technology, and will allow  her to experience the little things she's been missing out on! She’ll be able to enjoy being a teenager and see and do everything that her friends are doing.

Please help us make this dream of sight a reality for our incredible daughter. Any donation is appreciated and means that Abrielle is closer to getting her sight.

Love,
Gail and Jeff
