My name is Malissa Brooks and I’m reaching out with the heaviest heart. My little girl Rudy, a seven-year-old chiweenie, is my whole world. She isn’t just a pet—she is my family, my best friend, and truly my soulmate. We saved each other’s lives. When I was in one of the darkest times of my life and ready to give up, Rudy came to me after being neglected and abused. From that day on, we healed each other. She gave me love when I felt unlovable, hope when I had none, and a reason to keep living.

A few days ago, I took Rudy to the vet because she wasn’t feeling well—she had blood in her stool and a cyst on her teat. After testing, I received the news I was dreading: she has a mammary tumor and a heart murmur. The tumor could be cancerous, and we won’t know until she has a biopsy, bloodwork, and x-rays. Just those first tests alone cost $687.42. From there, she may need surgery, medicine, or even chemotherapy or radiation. The truth is, I am terrified of what’s ahead, but I know one thing for certain: I cannot lose her.

Rudy has been my rock through everything. She’s the best dog I’ve ever had—smart, loyal, and so loving. She never leaves my side; even without a leash, she walks right next to me, always looking up to make sure I’m okay. And now, I need to make sure she’s okay.

The only thing standing in our way is money. I don’t have the means to cover these costs, and it breaks my heart to even have to ask—but I would do anything to save my baby girl.
