Helping Out the Mighty Molly

Thank you all so much for your generous donations to Molly’s upcoming bills for surgery, radiation and chemo.  Won’t you help us spread the word and share this site on your social media?    

1.  Childhood cancers receive less than  4% of cancer funding. That’s not a typo - it is FOUR PERCENT. When Molly was diagnosed she immediately became an advocate for raising awareness for childhood cancers. She started doing this right after her first surgery and during her first round of treatment. She has helped raise awareness and money for many childhood cancer foundations. Wearing a different foundation T-shirt every day to treatment and posting it is another way she is doing this. 

2. Molly wants to share everything regarding her cancer journey, the good, the bad, the ugly. We all have known someone who has had cancer but many don’t know the true journey involved.  Molly shares in hopes of helping other cancer patients and the people who love them. She feels they need to know not every day is good and that it’s okay to not feel strong and brave even as everyone is telling you how strong you are. Molly has said “just because someone carries it well does not mean it isn’t heavy.” Again Molly’s purpose is not to bring attention to herself but to shine a light on the difficult (and often impossible) journey so many cancer patients go through. 

And Bunny posts because she is honoring Molly’s wish of doing the above. 

You will never meet a kinder, more selfless or more humble mother and daughter than Bunny  Oldham and Molly. ❤️❤️

From Bunny - 

Well here we go again.  Molly has relapsed and the cancer is back.  We are consulting with local doctors, and her team at Duke, as well as other hospitals with clinical trials.  Recurrence with Anaplastic Epedymoma is trickier each time around.  Most likely we will be moving her somewhere.   She is no longer a dependent and her Ohio insurance is not a problem.  If we go out of state, its stickier.  We are working on all that.  I have been asked to update the GFM and I frankly have no idea what we need.  We are much happier raising money for other people.  This sucks.  We know that most cancer families will face bankruptcy in the course of the patients life.  I will worry about that later.  

I have been told to take her to the Best Facility you can afford.   I simply can't do this myself.  I would rather raise money for anyone else other than me.....but I am...I am raising it for Molly...and her sisters.  If I can't keep her brain in tact..I will keep our family in tact.

Thank you and we promise to pay it forward when this is all over.  For now...a simple humble thank you.

The story below was crafted by my beautiful friends the first time around.  



Have you met Molly Oldham? Once you have you don't forget her. She's a vivacious young woman who loves to sing and dance and make people smile and laugh. She blossomed as a performer in the ETC Show Choir and made magic come alive for countless rapt kids in her role as Moana  with Part of Their World. She's one of just seven outstanding candidates accepted to the UNC Musical Theater program (we affectionately refer to her as our "unicorn"). And she was excited to start college in North Carolina in just a few weeks. Always one to make a memorable entrance, when she does get to school, it will be with a partially shaved head. 
Molly went into the emergency room last week due to a series of recently recurring migraines. A friend who works for the hospital recommended a CAT scan that ended up revealing a tennis ball sized tumor on her brain. She was immediately admitted and the amazing team at Akron Children's Hospital performed surgery on August 9th, just two days after the discovery. Her neurosurgeon was very positive about the outcome of the surgery and believes that they removed the entire tumor. The pathology results revealed a diagnosis of Anaplastic Ependymoma. Molly will begin radiation in the next 2 weeks once the tumor bed shrinks a bit more and they are looking at a 6 week treatment plan. She will continue an Intensive Day PT/OT/Speech program at Akron Children’s, and she has been accepted to TriC for this semester where she will take GenEds online.


If you know Bunny and her girls, JML: aka Jordan, Molly and Lilly, then you know what an amazing bunch they are. Bunny, Jordan and Lilly immediately rallied around Molly (along with so many other folks in the community) to get her through this ordeal. A day after the surgery Molly was singing along to her favorite show tunes and feeding herself chicken soup. A day after that she was walking down the hallway in the hospital. We know that our Mighty Molly will only continue to improve, maintaining her magnificent sense of humor and her sunny singing spirit as she kicks this tumor's booty. This family of women has been an inspiration and helpful to so many people who have come to love them. There was rarely an empty seat in the waiting room from the time Molly entered the hospital. Molly's room is covered with balloons, flowers, and cards with so many words of encouragement from so many people who love her.


Myriad folks have asked how they can help and whether there was a way to contribute to Molly's expenses. This fund has been set up for those who wish to make a gift that will go towards the care of this remarkable young woman.

Right now we have no idea what the final medical bills and expenses will be, but there are numerous fundraising activities going on to support Molly. Sincere thanks to everyone who has kept Molly and her family in their thoughts and prayers, who brought food, flowers, hugs and smiles to the hospital. And to the outstanding team at Akron Children's who is helping our Might Molly to keep singing. She'll have a heck of an audience when she makes it to Broadway.

#TheMightyMolly’s radiation treatments are DONE as of today! 

However, even though the treatment is done, medical-related expenses will be lifelong and long-term, including travel for quarterly testing (scans recommended on same machine for comparison), and continued uncovered therapy.  The financial burden on the family has been an extra stressor on the entire family. Additionally, Molly’s mom, Bunny recently had two strokes. She  thankfully is recovering, but she also has some unknown medical bills coming due from her hospital stay and follow-up treatments and physical therapies.

The family cannot thank you enough for your assistance. It doesn’t come easy to them to accept help as they’ve always been the ones to help.   Thank you, #TheMightyMolly village!
