Dave’s Journey to Recovery

Donation protected
Our dear friend, Dave Hoover, was diagnosed with liver cancer this past summer.
He's the kind of guy that will do anything he can to help a friend. He is a loyal, honest, dependable, and hard-working man who can fix anything! We have been honored to work with Dave for so many years.
Just months after his cancer diagnosis, Dave unexpectedly lost his wife Trina. To say that it has been a hard year is an understatement.
We want to come together to help Dave financially as he begins a new cancer treatment. His daughter has outlined his journey below.

Dave's Cancer journey in the words of his daughter, Kesley:

It has been brought to my attention that not everyone knew my dad had Cancer. So I want to take a moment and share his journey with you.
July 27, 2022, Dad woke up (Mom was already on her way to work) and threw up a toilet full of blood. Mom went back home immediately and took Dad to the Emergency Room. They admitted him for about a week and determined that he had Bleeding Varocies in his esophagus. They also saw spots in his liver. Dad’s hemoglobin dropped to a 7 while in the hospital. So if any of you saw him and he seemed a lot weaker or more tired than usual, that played a big role. Over the next few weeks, it was determined that Dad had Cirrhosis of the Liver and Liver Cancer. As a family, we decided the best option presented by Dad’s doctors was a form of Injection Radiation. Dad received his first treatment on October 6, 2022.
Following Dad’s radiation, he was not feeling well, so he did not go to his doctor appointments in November, but planned to go in December.
Mom passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack on December 12, 2022. Any of the family that was at the family gathering following Mom’s passing knows Dad was interested in talking with Mike Overpeck about his journey.
In the following weeks, we got Dad scheduled for all of his doctor appointments. Unfortunately, on February 28th, we were informed Dad was no longer a candidate for Radiation due to his lab levels. Immediately, Dad and I reached out to Mike Overpeck. We set up a time on Saturday, March 11th to talk to Mike about his experience at The New Hope Center. Mike shared his video story:
Thursday, March 2nd, something told me I needed to reach out to the Treatment Center, without Dad knowing. And I did. They called me Sunday, March 5th and we worked to obtain medical records from Dad’s doctors. I had to admit to Dad that I reached out to them.
Tuesday, March 7th, we received a call from Mike and Tara Overpeck that Dad had been accepted to the treatment center. Plans began immediately to get Dad to the Treatment Center. Booking his room at the treatment center, booking flights, booking hotel rooms.
Dad and I will travel to Fort Wayne Airport and fly out Sunday, March 12th at 7am. We will arrive in Yuma, AZ around 2:30pm on Sunday. Monday morning New Hope will pick us up at the hotel and transport us to the treatment center.
Dad and I will leave the treatment center and return to the hotel in Yuma, AZ on Friday, March 24th. We will fly out of Yuma and return to Fort Wayne around 10:30pm on Saturday, March 25th.
Many of you know, several years ago, my dad said he wanted to go on a cruise. So I bought a cruise for the family. COVID and other things, the cruise has been rescheduled and is Dad and I, and some other family and friends. We sail out April 1st. At this time, we still plan on going on the cruise. It will all depend on how dad is feeling, but the next month will be difficult for the family and we appreciate all thoughts and prayers.
