Top Surgery Fund

Hello, my name is Aylish Chatterley and in July 2022 I received top surgery to remove breast tissue in an effort to align with my gender identity as a non-binary trans person. This surgery was to combat my gender dysphoria and finally have the chest I had wished I was born with.

To receive this surgery, I needed to use out-of-network insurance benefits. After 4 years of searching and trying to use my own insurance.. there was no one in my insurance network that was experienced and open to completing my gender-affirming surgery. I ran into roadblock after roadblock with co-pays, BMI requirements, and after searching for all of these years... I found Dr. Scott Mosser from San Francisco, CA to help me, but it came at a heavy price. The decision to get surgery, especially with no insurance coverage, was one that weighed on me for some time. I knew that this was the only route I was going to ever be able to take, it was just a matter of when. How much longer could I live in a body that wasn't mine.

I saved, and I applied to gender-affirming care grants but I was never picked. I am starting this gofundme in hopes that someone out there can support my journey to finally becoming my authentic self. Post-surgery I have never been happier with the way I look, but the costs have been catching up to me, especially now that school is starting. I will be graduating in May 2023 with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Exercise Science and Clinical Rehabilitation, along with a Minor in Women and Gender Studies. I hope to help others in the future one day both personally and professionally.
